A multidisciplinary group of KidneyX Sustainability Prize judges will review eligible submissions and recommend up to seven winners. Judges will evaluate submissions based on the six equally weighted judging criteria below.

 

The HHS Award Approving Official will be Dr. Leith States, Acting Deputy Director and Chief Medical Officer, Office of Science and Medicine, Office of the Assistant Secretary for Health, U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.

Judging criteria

Sustainability impact

The extent to which the proposed solution demonstrates its potential to reduce water or power usage during dialysis.

Equitable access

The extent to which the solution addresses the unique challenges faced by the dialysis community, addresses health disparities, and promotes equitable access to care.

Feasibility

The extent to which the solution can be used or tested in existing dialysis centers or through home dialysis, supported by evidence indicating its practicality and viability in real-world settings.

Technical innovation

The extent to which the solution is novel, groundbreaking, or a creative application of existing technologies or processes used. Include scientific rationale and initial validation data, if available, to support your solution’s effectiveness. The extent to which you or your team used your expertise, including details of past and current collaborations.

Patient engagement

The extent to which the solution incorporates patient considerations in the development process, ensuring the solution meets the needs and preferences of people using dialysis.

Scalability and impact

The extent to which the solution considers what would be necessary to drive impact and scale by complementing, building off, or integrating into existing dialysis systems.
